62-Year-Old Doctor Collapses and Dies at Mpongwe Guest House
A 62-year-old medical doctor from Luanshya District has died in Mpongwe District on the Copperbelt Province after collapsing at a named guest house under circumstances currently under police investigation.
Confirming the incident, Copperbelt Police Commissioner Mwala Yuyi said the deceased checked into the guest house on January 24, 2026, around 15:00 hours, in the company of a 50-year-old female friend.
Mr Yuyi explained that the deceased later complained about poor air circulation in the room before suddenly collapsing.
“The receptionist was alerted after the female companion reported that the man had collapsed,” Mr Yuyi said.
🏥 Scene Findings and Response
According to police, when lodge staff accessed the room, they found the deceased unresponsive and naked. Male staff members assisted in dressing the body in a boxer before authorities were contacted.
“The female companion reportedly became frightened and attempted to flee the scene but was restrained. The matter was later reported to Masaiti Police Station,” Mr Yuyi said.
Police officers who inspected the body found no visible physical injuries, and the deceased was lying on his back.
⚖️ Investigations Ongoing
The body has since been deposited at St Theresa’s Mission Hospital mortuary for postmortem examination to establish the exact cause of death. Meanwhile, the female companion has been detained at Masaiti Police Station to assist police with investigations.
Police have stated that investigations are ongoing, and further details will be communicated once forensic and medical examinations are concluded.
