ZNBC Journalist Mark Ziligone Brutally Beaten by OP Officers

ZNBC’s Mark Ziligone Recounts Assault by Men in Uniform While Covering Fatal Road Accident
ZNBC journalist Mark Ziligone has come forward with a shocking account of how he was assaulted by officers in uniform while covering a fatal road accident along Ring Road, near Lilayi.
The journalist says he was roughed up, slapped, and had his phone confiscated despite identifying himself with his press card.
The incident has sparked renewed concerns over press freedom and the treatment of journalists in Zambia.
According to Ziligone’s account, he arrived at the accident scene early in the morning and began taking photos when an officer suddenly pushed him, shouting insults: “Iwe, chik**la choka! You think this is ZNBC?” Despite explaining that he was simply doing his job, Ziligone says his phone was seized and he was assaulted. He adds that he was dragged, slapped, and intimidated even after officers recognized him as a ZNBC journalist. His phone was only returned later, but not before he sustained bruises.
The journalist’s revelation has since stirred debate on social media, with many questioning the safety of media practitioners and the accountability of state officers.
Ziligone confirmed he has identified one of the officers involved and intends to pursue the matter further. “First, let me get to the clinic,” he wrote, highlighting the physical injuries sustained during the attack.
