Chilenje Police Station has confirmed a shooting in Chalala’s G-Greens area between midnight and 01:00 hours on August 18, 2025.
The victims are Assistant Superintendent James Phiri, 45, from Police Headquarters – Operations, and his wife, Chief Inspector Astridah Bwalya of the Paramilitary Battalion Headquarters Training Wing. Both sustained gunshot wounds and are receiving treatment at the University Teaching Hospital. Mr. Phiri is reported to be in stable condition, while Mrs. Phiri remains in critical care.
Authorities revealed that a Taurus pistol was used in the incident and has since been secured. Investigations into the circumstances of the shooting are ongoing, with updates expected as inquiries progress.
