DR Hosea Siame Blames Viagra Abuse for Lodge Deaths
The University Teaching Hospital (UTH) Adult Hospital has called on men struggling with persistent erectile dysfunction (ED) to come forward and seek medical help, assuring the public that advanced, confidential treatment services are now readily available locally.
Senior Registrar Dr Hosea Siame said many men continue to suffer in silence, unaware that UTH offers specialised and effective treatment options for erectile dysfunction.
“Many patients are unaware that such specialised services exist right here at UTH. We want men to come forward and access safe, effective care close to home,” Dr Siame said.
He emphasized that early medical intervention not only improves treatment outcomes but also helps restore confidence and overall quality of life.
Dr Siame was speaking following the successful completion of a live, hands-on surgical workshop held from November 24 to 28, 2025, conducted in partnership with visiting urology specialists from Pakistan. The programme focused on strengthening advanced treatment options for men living with severe and persistent erectile dysfunction.
The workshop brought together UTH Consultant Urologist Dr Bassem Wadie, Dr Siame, and visiting specialists Dr Yahya Hasan and Dr Usama Nawaz in a collaborative effort aimed at skills transfer, capacity building, and expanding access to specialised men’s health care.
During the programme, the medical team performed five penile implant surgeries, a globally recognised solution for end-stage erectile dysfunction, particularly in patients who have not responded to conventional medication.
In addition to penile implants, the team conducted 11 complex urethral stricture surgeries and 10 kidney and ureteric stone procedures, underscoring the comprehensive nature of the live surgical workshop.
All patients who underwent surgery during the programme are reported to be recovering well.
Dr Wadie described the workshop as a major milestone in advancing men’s health services at UTH Adult Hospital.
“This partnership allowed us to treat patients while empowering our local team with world-class surgical techniques. For men who thought they had no options left, this brings new hope,” he said.
The information was confirmed in a statement issued by UTH Public Relations Officer Mwiza Mwiya.
