Kabanana Unlicensed Mechanic Crashes Customer’s Mercedes-Benz While Drunk Driving

Unlicensed Driver Causes Accident at Addis Ababa Roundabout in Lusaka
A 28-year-old mechanic of Kabanana Site and Service, Lusaka, has landed in serious trouble after crashing his customer’s Mercedes-Benz while driving under the influence of alcohol. Identified as Richard Mpolokoso, the unlicensed driver lost control of the vehicle at excessive speed and collided with a Toyota Spacio. The accident occurred on September 28, 2025, around 17:30 hours at the Addis Ababa Roundabout. Police confirmed that the Mercedes-Benz was extensively damaged, while Mpolokoso sustained minor injuries.
According to Police Assistant Public Relations Officer Godfrey Chilabi, Mpolokoso will face charges of dangerous driving, driving under the influence of alcohol, and driving without a licence. Meanwhile, the owner of the Mercedes-Benz, registration BLA 1318, will also be charged for permitting an unlicensed person to drive his vehicle. The second car involved, a Toyota Spacio registration ALX 2694 driven by Kabinda Kasuba, 44, of Kwamwena, sustained damage to its rear right bumper and fender. Preliminary investigations revealed that the accident was caused by excessive speed, which led the Mercedes-Benz to overturn after hitting the traffic circle pillars.
Mr. Chilabi emphasized that the incident highlights the dangers of reckless driving and the risks of entrusting vehicles to unlicensed individuals. Police have since recorded the case and indicated that both Mpolokoso and the car owner will be dealt with according to the law. The incident has raised concerns among Lusaka residents about road safety and the responsibility of vehicle owners in preventing such avoidable accidents.
