lusaka teachers trade blows over promised credit facility
What was supposed to be an ordinary Tuesday staffroom chat in Lusaka turned into a full-blown WWE episode when two teachers decided to settle their beef with fists ts instead of words.
The drama featured Mulubwa Benson (48) and Lubasi Nkosi (50)—both old enough to know better, but clearly young at heart when it comes to throwing punches.
According to sources, trouble started when Mr. Mulubwa, who allegedly owes Mr. Nkosi a cool K15,000 Kaloba debt that’s been hanging for over two years, began boasting in the staffroom about how he would splash the money from the upcoming credit facility. He bragged about finishing his house, buying a car and living large—forgetting that the very man he owes was seated in the corner listening.
That was the final straw for Mr. Nkosi, who snapped and shouted: “Ala, if people like you with chicken brains get that money, the credit facility will collapse before it even grows wings!”
The staffroom burst into laughter, with some teachers adding salt to the wound, mocking: “Why not just call the whole credit scheme ‘Mulubwa Bank’ since he never pays back?”
At that point, Mulubwa’s temper boiled over. In seconds, desks were shaking, papers flying, and Mr. Nkosi was on the floor with only one shoe left on his foot. Witnesses say the fight was so brutal that words disappeared—only the sound of knuckles doing “popo…tata…dudu” could be heard echoing in the room.
One science teacher who tried to play referee walked away in tears—literally—with a swollen eye, vowing never to interfere in “married men’s debts” again.
The chaos only stopped when police stormed the school and dragged the two warriors away. Without their timely arrival, insiders say the brawl could have ended in tragedy.
