My heart will forever remain broken, says Vice-President Mutale Nalumango

VICE-President Mutale Nalumango says the death of former President Edgar Lungu has forever broken her heart.

Mrs Nalumango said that although she often disagreed with Mr Lungu on policies and principles, his passing is deeply heartbreaking.

“It is with a heart weighed down by sorrow that I reflect on the life and legacy of the Sixth Republican President of the Republic of Zambia, Dr Edgar Lungu.

Though I quarreled with him, though we stood apart on policies and principles, believe me when I say my heart will forever remain broken by his passing,” she said.

Mrs Nalumango added that every disagreement with Mr Lungu was borne out of love and respect, anchored in a shared commitment to Zambia and its people.

She said as a husband, father, and national leader, Mr Lungu understood and tolerated her quarrels, knowing that at the core, she was his sister in service to the nation.

“The pain is even greater knowing there will never be another Edgar Lungu to challenge, to debate, to inspire through shared convictions,” Mrs Nalumango said.

She called on the nation to turn to prayer and stand with President Hakainde Hichilema in supporting him.

“We have one President who bears the weight of this moment, and as he works to honour and mourn his brother in a dignified manner, let us stand with him, offering our unwavering support in the days ahead,” the Vice-President said.
