President Hichilema Assents Constitution Amendment Bill No. 7 of 2025 into Law
President Hakainde Hichilema has officially assented into law the Constitution of Zambia (Amendment) Bill No. 7 of 2025, calling on citizens to put political divisions aside and concentrate on national development. Speaking shortly after signing the Bill, the Head of State emphasized that the constitutional reforms are not meant to benefit any single individual or political grouping, but are designed for both present and future generations of Zambians.
President Hichilema stated that the reforms belong to all Zambians including those who opposed the BillĀ and stressed that national progress requires unity and collective responsibility. He urged those still divided by past political events, including the 2021 General Elections, to move forward and focus on building the country. According to the President, the time for debate has passed, and the priority must now be development.
The President highlighted the importance of economic growth in creating jobs, expanding business opportunities, and increasing government revenue. He noted that improved revenue would strengthen support systems for vulnerable groups such as the elderly, persons with disabilities, the sick, and retirees. Programmes like the Social Cash Transfer under the Ministry of Community Development and Cash for Work initiatives by local authorities were cited as key interventions aimed at improving livelihoods.
With the constitutional debate now declared over, President Hichilema said attention must turn to pressing issues affecting citizens, including electricity supply. He assured Zambians that load shedding would soon come to an end, stressing the need for reliable power to support small businesses and essential services. The President added that government is actively diversifying energy sources, including solar power, to stabilize electricity generation and ensure health facilities are fully powered to save lives.
