Trending Video of Nurse Using Unpalatable Language in Uniform

Lusaka, Wednesday, 15th October 2025 – The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Zambia (NMCZ) has expressed deep concern and disappointment over a viral video circulating on social media showing a graduating nurse dressed in professional uniform using inappropriate and unprofessional language.
In a statement released today, the Council described the nurse’s conduct as “regrettable” and a serious breach of the ethical and professional standards expected of nurses and midwives in Zambia. According to NMCZ, the incident is believed to have occurred around the time of the 47th Copperbelt Combined Graduation Ceremony, which took place on Tuesday, 14th October 2025, in Ndola.
The Council emphasized that the nurse’s behavior not only violates professional codes but also undermines public confidence in the nursing and midwifery professions. “The uniform worn by nurses and midwives is a symbol of trust, compassion, and professionalism,” the statement reads. “Any behavior that erodes this symbol damages the integrity of the profession.”
NMCZ reminded all practitioners that the use of social media must align with the Professional Conduct and Ethics for Nurses and Midwives in Zambia (2024) and the Guidelines for the Professional Use of Mobile Phones and Social Media for Zambian Nurses and Midwives (2019). These documents strictly prohibit any communication that could bring the profession into disrepute, particularly when practitioners are in uniform or in a healthcare setting.
The Council further confirmed that the nurse involved has been identified and will face disciplinary action under the Nursing and Midwifery Act No. 10 of 2019. Those found guilty of professional misconduct may face suspension or removal from the official register of nurses and midwives.
NMCZ has since urged all nurses and midwives across the country to uphold the dignity of their profession and to use social media responsibly. The Council reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining the highest standards of nursing and midwifery practice, ensuring that the Zambian public continues to receive care from professionals who embody trust, respect, and integrity.
