ZCLU Criticizes Reappointment of Kunda as WARMA Board Chair, Citing Anti-Corruption Concerns

The Zambian Civil Liberties Union (ZCLU) has strongly criticized the government’s decision to reappoint Dr. John Kunda as Chairperson of the Board of Directors for the Water Resources Management Authority (WARMA), stating it raises serious concerns about the government’s stance on fighting corruption.

In a statement, ZCLU Executive Director Isaac Mwanza said the move by Water Development and Sanitation Minister Collins Nzovu, who officially reappointed Dr. Kunda on Monday, reflects a disappointing continuation of governance practices seen in previous administrations.

Mwanza argued that retaining Dr. Kunda in the position signals a lack of political will by the UPND government to uphold transparency and break from the questionable decisions of past regimes. He emphasized that such reappointments undermine public confidence in the government’s commitment to integrity, accountability, and genuine institutional reform.

ZCLU called on authorities to demonstrate greater seriousness in the fight against corruption by making appointments that reflect a fresh and credible approach to public service leadership.
