Agreed Funeral Arrangements for the Late President Edgar Chagwa Lungu between the Family and the Government of Zambia

1)The body will be repatriated from South Africa on Wednesday, 18th June 2025, using a private charter arranged by family well-wishers.In the same manner as when he left for South Africa

2)Arrival in Zambia:

Upon arrival at Lanseria Airport, the body will be accompanied by the family to Zambia. Military honours will be conducted by four military units at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport (KKIA).

3)Lying in State:

The body will be taken to his personal residence in Chifwema where it will lie in state.It will always return there after public or state functions.

4)Public Viewing:

Thursday, 19th June – Saturday, 21st June 2025: Body viewing will take place at Mulungushi International Conference Centre (MICC) from 09:00 to 16:00 daily.

After each day, the body will be returned to Chifwema residence to lie in state.

5)State Funeral:

To be held at MICC on Sunday, 22nd June 2025.

The body will return to Chifwema after the event.

6)Valedictory & Church Service:

Monday, 23rd June 2025:

A valedictory session will be held at the Supreme Court grounds to honour him as a lawyer.

A church service will follow at Showgrounds in Lusaka, to be conducted by Archbishop Alick Banda

7)Accompaniment of the Body:

At all times, the body will be accompanied by:

A family member

The Aide-de-Camp

The former President’s personal physician

7)Public Communication:

Government and family will jointly agree on who speaks at events.

Given Lubinda will officially speak on behalf of the Patriotic Front (PF) party to avoid confusion.

8)Regret on Unfulfilled Wishes:

The family’s wish to take the body to Petauke (his home village) and Kitwe (where he grew up) was rejected by the Government.

The public is urged to take advantage of the three days of viewing in Lusaka.

The family hopes the Government will reconsider this decision.
