Mongu – Sunday, July 13, 2025:
Western Province Police were forced to intervene in a heated confrontation involving Nalolo District Commissioner (DC) Namatama Mupo at the Provincial Administration offices in Mongu. The incident disrupted official proceedings attended by Western Province Permanent Secretary Akapelwa Simomo and Nalolo Member of Parliament Hon. Imanga Wamunyima.
The clash, which took place on Wednesday, saw DC Mupo accuse civil servants of supporting the activities of the area MP. However, the officials were reportedly assisting beneficiaries of the Youth Empowerment Programme under a routine government monitoring initiative.
Viral footage circulating online captures the DC in a tense exchange with officials. Eyewitnesses say Hon. Wamunyima was at the premises to conclude a monitoring exercise for the Youth Empowerment Programme alongside the Provincial Administration.
During the altercation, DC Mupo was heard claiming she was expecting a phone call from President Hakainde Hichilema. She also made unverified accusations of harassment against the MP’s official driver.
Despite the disruption, Hon. Wamunyima proceeded with his official schedule. Police were called in to defuse the situation, eventually escorting the DC and other individuals off the premises. The incident unfolded within the office of the Provincial Permanent Secretary.
