Access Bank Zambia Responds to Suspected Cyber Threat

Access Bank Zambia has revealed that it had to temporarily suspend some of its digital banking services after identifying a potential external cyber threat to its systems.
According to a statement issued to ZNBC News, the bank’s internal monitoring systems detected the threat on Wednesday, June 25, 2025. In response, Access Bank swiftly activated its risk management protocols to secure its infrastructure and safeguard customers.
Kalumbu Kearns, Head of Corporate Communications and Brand Management at the bank, confirmed that no customer funds or personal information were compromised during the incident.
She also reported that restoration of services is currently underway. Core digital services including AccessPay internet banking, USSD mobile banking, Tenga Mobile Money, card services, and some ATM locations are already fully functional.
Kearns further assured customers that work is ongoing to fully restore the Mobile Banking and Tenga Apps, along with the SmartPay platform, with full service resumption expected soon.
