Bellarmine Mugabe Arrested in South Africa

The youngest son of Zimbabwe’s late former president, Robert Mugabe, has been arrested in South Africa on suspicion of attempted murder. According to reports from BBC, 28-year-old Bellarmine Mugabe was taken into custody following a reported shooting incident at a residence in an affluent suburb of Johannesburg.

The incident is said to have occurred at a property in Hyde Park, where Mugabe was staying. A 23-year-old man, believed to be a gardener, was shot and seriously injured during the altercation. Authorities confirmed that the victim was rushed to hospital and remains in critical condition after being shot once.

Police officers who searched the Hyde Park residence reportedly recovered spent bullet cartridges at the scene. However, no firearm was found during the search. Investigators have stated that the suspects have not disclosed the location of the weapon, adding another layer of complexity to the case.

Bellarmine Mugabe, the youngest son of Robert Mugabe and his second wife, Grace Mugabe, was arrested alongside another man. South African police spokesperson Col Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi confirmed that both individuals are in custody as investigations continue.

Although police have not officially named Bellarmine Mugabe as one of the suspects, journalists at the scene reportedly saw him in handcuffs. Local media outlets have widely identified him in connection with the arrest. Authorities indicated that the two suspects are expected to appear in court soon.

Robert Mugabe, who passed away in 2019, ruled Zimbabwe for 37 years before being removed from power in 2017 at the age of 93. The latest developments involving his son have drawn significant public and media attention across the region as legal proceedings move forward.
