Gezile Mwale Arrested for Harassment Under Cyber Crime Act

Police in Lusaka have arrested 23-year-old social media content creator Gezile Smith Mwale on allegations of harassment, humiliation and prohibited conduct under the Cyber Crime Act No. 4 of 2025. The arrest follows a complaint lodged by Abigail Mutale, popularly known as Ms Tokyo, who reported being subjected to repeated online humiliation and harassment on social media.

According to Police Spokesperson Geoffrey Chilabi, the complaint was reported on November 21, 2025, around 13:00 hours. Preliminary investigations revealed that between November 1 and November 21, 2025, Mwale allegedly went live on her TikTok account, disseminated false information, and published an image of the complainant. Police say the content circulated allegedly damaged the complainant’s reputation and exposed her to public ridicule, humiliation and emotional distress.

Mr. Chilabi confirmed that Mwale was warned and cautioned before being formally charged and arrested in line with provisions of the Cyber Crime Act. The suspect has since been released on police bond and is expected to appear in court at a later date. Police have emphasized that investigations are ongoing and that the law will take its course.

Meanwhile, police have cautioned members of the public to exercise responsibility, restraint and respect when using digital platforms. Mr. Chilabi stressed that online conduct must uphold the dignity and rights of all individuals, warning that misuse of social media to harass or humiliate others will be dealt with firmly in accordance with the law.
