“Start Prostitution!” Kitwe Man’s Advice to Wife Stuns Courtroom
A dramatic case unfolded at the Bulangililo Local Court, where a 34-year-old woman narrated how her husband allegedly advised her to engage in prostitution after she questioned his failure to provide for the family.
Edinah Kalibuta, 34, was testifying in a divorce case against her husband Anthony Mulowa, 31, accusing him of infidelity, neglect, and irresponsible behavior in their marriage.
The couple, who got married in 2008 and share five children, reportedly had a stable relationship until 2018, when Kalibuta alleged that her husband began engaging in extramarital affairs.
She told the court that she once caught her husband with another woman, leading to a physical altercation. Despite involving church elders in an attempt to resolve the issues, Kalibuta said the situation only worsened, with her husband continuing his affairs and withdrawing financial support.
“My husband has never bought me clothes and when I ask why, he advises me to start prostitution,” she testified.
Kalibuta further revealed that Mulowa allegedly sold three out of four plots they had acquired in Mufuchani Township without her consent, along with household goods.
She added that her husband deserted the family in 2024, only returning in 2025, which further strained their relationship.
In his defence, Mulowa denied most of the allegations, stating that their marital problems only started in 2025 due to what he described as minor misunderstandings. He opposed the divorce and instead asked the court to reconcile the marriage.
In delivering judgment, senior local court magistrate Austin Banji dismissed the divorce petition after both parties agreed to reconcile.
