25-Year-Old Man Shot Dead in Solwezi, One Suspect Arrested

Police in Solwezi have launched investigations into the fatal shooting of a 25-year-old man, identified as Sarkodie Chibuye, following a tragic incident in Kandemba Compound, Kimiteto Area on Friday afternoon.

According to Police Public Relations Officer Godfrey Chilabi, the shooting occurred at approximately 15:30 hours on July 10, 2026, at the deceased’s residence.

The incident was reported to Kyawama Police Station at around 15:50 hours by the deceased’s elder brother, William Chibuye, 30, of Kyawama Area.

What Happened?

Preliminary police investigations indicate that Sarkodie Chibuye arrived home at around 15:00 hours accompanied by two unidentified men.

Shortly after entering the house, neighbours reportedly heard a heated argument coming from inside the residence.

Moments later, a single gunshot rang out.

Residents rushed to the house and discovered Sarkodie lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to the upper chest. He was immediately taken to Solwezi General Hospital, where medical personnel pronounced him dead upon arrival.

One Suspect Arrested

Following the shooting, members of the public pursued the two suspects.

One of them, identified only as Kayombo, was apprehended by residents. During the arrest, he was allegedly assaulted by members of the public, leaving him with serious injuries.

Police later recovered a Taurus pistol loaded with ammunition from the suspect. The firearm was surrendered to police as part of the ongoing investigation.

Kayombo is currently receiving treatment at Solwezi General Hospital under police guard. Authorities say he will be formally charged with murder once his medical condition improves and investigations are completed.

Second Suspect Still on the Run

Police have confirmed that the second suspect managed to escape and remains at large.

A manhunt has since been launched as investigators work to establish the motive behind the shooting and locate the fugitive.

The body of the deceased has been deposited in the Solwezi General Hospital Mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.

Police Public Relations Officer Godfrey Chilabi stated that investigations remain active.

“The motive behind the shooting has not yet been established. Investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and to apprehend the suspect who remains at large,” he said.

Authorities have appealed to members of the public with information that could assist the investigation to report to the nearest police station.
