The Copper Queens have vowed to go all out for victory when they face Nigeria in a crucial 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) Group C clash on Saturday night.
The highly anticipated encounter will be played at Al Madina Stadium in Rabat, kicking off at 22:00 local time.
Zambia heads into the match full of confidence after an emphatic 6-0 victory over Egypt, while Nigeria will be looking to bounce back after suffering a surprise 3-2 defeat to Malawi in their opening fixture.
Copper Queens head coach Nora Häuptle says her players are fully aware of the challenge posed by the Super Falcons but insists Zambia’s mentality is to play for maximum points.
“We do not play for a draw or a loss. Our objective is to win every match,” Häuptle said ahead of the encounter.
Nigeria head coach Justin Madugu acknowledged the importance of the fixture, saying his side understands what is at stake and will leave nothing to chance.
Copper Queens forward Racheal Kundananji described the match against the African giants as extra motivation, saying the team is determined to make Zambia proud with another positive result.
Meanwhile, Nigeria goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie said the Super Falcons are focused on securing their first victory of the tournament after a disappointing start.
Zambia currently sits top of Group C with three points, level with second-placed Malawi but ahead on goal difference. Nigeria and Egypt are yet to register a point.
Victory for the Copper Queens would significantly boost their chances of qualifying for the knockout stages and further cement their status as one of the tournament favourites.
