Former Vice President Dr. Guy Scott Dies at 82

The Government of the Republic of Zambia has announced the death of Former Vice President Dr. Guy Lindsay Scott, who passed away at the age of 82.

According to a press statement issued by Secretary to the Cabinet Patrick K. Kangwa, Dr. Scott died on Wednesday, 15th July 2026, at his Trotover Farm in Leopards Hill, Lusaka, following an illness.

A Distinguished Public Servant

Dr. Scott served as Vice President of Zambia from 2011 to 2014 under the late President Michael Chilufya Sata.

Following President Sata’s death on 28 October 2014, Dr. Scott assumed the role of Acting President, serving from October 2014 to January 2015 during the country’s constitutional transition.

Earlier in his political career, Dr. Scott also served as Minister of Agriculture, Food and Fisheries in the administration of Zambia’s Second Republican President, Dr. Frederick Chiluba.

State Funeral Accorded

In recognition of his distinguished service and contribution to Zambia, President Hakainde Hichilema has accorded the late former Vice President a State Funeral.

The Government says details of the funeral and burial programme will be communicated to the public in due course.

Nation Mourns

Dr. Guy Scott will be remembered for his decades of public service and his significant role in Zambia’s political history, including becoming the country’s Acting President during a pivotal period following the passing of President Michael Sata.

Further details regarding funeral arrangements are expected to be released by Government.
