JUST IN: Copperbelt Police Commissioner Mwala Yuyi Removed from Position

The Zambia Police Service has made changes to its provincial command structure following the immediate removal of Copperbelt Province Police Commanding Officer Mwala Yuyi from his position.

According to the latest information, Mwala Yuyi has been transferred to Police Service Headquarters for further deployment, bringing his tenure as Copperbelt Province Police Commanding Officer to an end.

Taking over the strategic command of the province is Kenneth Kang’ombe, who until now served as Muchinga Province Police Commanding Officer. He has been appointed as the new Copperbelt Province Police Commanding Officer with immediate effect.

The reasons behind Yuyi’s removal have not yet been officially disclosed, and the Zambia Police Service has not issued a detailed statement explaining the decision.

The reshuffle comes at a time when the country is preparing for the 2026 General Elections, with law enforcement expected to play a crucial role in maintaining public order, safeguarding electoral processes, and ensuring peaceful campaigns across the country.

The Copperbelt remains one of Zambia’s most strategically important provinces due to its economic significance and high population, making police leadership in the region particularly critical.

Observers are expected to closely monitor how the new command under Kenneth Kang’ombe will address security concerns and maintain law and order in the province.

Further details regarding Mwala Yuyi’s new assignment at Police Headquarters are expected once the Zambia Police Service issues an official statement.
