Kabwe Driver Dies Moments After Mocking Elderly Street Vendor

Residents of Kabwe were left stunned yesterday following a shocking and tragic incident that unfolded near the new PEP store.
An elderly woman who sells lemons and other wild fruits by the roadside was reportedly mocked by a well-known bus driver. Witnesses say the driver approached her stall, asked about her prices, and questioned why she was selling lemons in the rain. He allegedly laughed at her merchandise and called over his conductor, making remarks that drew attention and laughter from bystanders.
Although the conductor joined in, some witnesses claim he appeared uncomfortable. The situation took a more emotional turn when the elderly woman began to cry. Members of the public urged the driver to at least buy something from her after reducing her to tears. In a joking manner, he reportedly handed her K10 while continuing to mock her, prompting more laughter from the crowd.
According to those present, the driver was known for publicly making fun of people. However, events took a tragic turn just moments later.
Witnesses say that shortly after leaving the woman’s stand, the driver had barely taken a few steps when he was struck by a passing vehicle. The impact was severe, and he died on the spot. Onlookers described the scene as sudden and shocking, with many saying they did not see the vehicle approach.
The atmosphere quickly shifted from laughter to silence. What began as a moment of ridicule ended in tragedy, leaving residents in disbelief over how quickly events unfolded. Authorities are yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident.
