President Hichilema Fulfills Campaign Pledge with Mulungushi Textiles Reopening

President Hakainde Hichilema said the official relaunch of Mulungushi Textiles in Kabwe delivers on a promise he made while still in opposition. He described the event as proof that his administration is committed to turning campaign commitments into tangible results for citizens.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony in Central Province, the President explained that the reopening was motivated by a strong sense of responsibility to improve the lives of Zambians. He stressed that the pledge to revive the plant came from a genuine concern for the welfare of the people.

According to President Hichilema, bringing the factory back into operation goes beyond fulfilling a political promise. He said it represents a larger agenda of stimulating economic recovery and driving industrial development across the country.

The President also highlighted the role of international partnership in the project. He pointed to the revival of Mulungushi Textiles as evidence of the solid and long-standing relationship between Zambia and the People’s Republic of China, calling it a model of effective bilateral cooperation.

For the residents of Kabwe, President Hichilema said, the reopening brings renewed hope. He acknowledged that many in the community had waited years to see the once-vibrant textile plant restored, noting that its revival signals broader economic renewal for the town.

He added that the plant is set to become an important source of employment and will help rebuild Kabwe’s local economy. After years of dormancy, the Mulungushi Textiles facility is now expected to make a meaningful contribution to Zambia’s manufacturing sector.
