M’membe Questions Mundubile’s Leadership Credentials Ahead of Elections

Lusaka, Zambia – Socialist Party (SP) president Dr. Fred M’membe has questioned the suitability of National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP) presidential candidate Brian Mundubile to lead Zambia, arguing that his record in government raises concerns about his ability to govern effectively.

Speaking during an interview on Wednesday, Dr. M’membe, who is also contesting this year’s general election, said Zambians should carefully assess the leadership records of those seeking public office before casting their votes.

“If Zambians elect Mr. Mundubile into office, they will have themselves to blame,” Dr. M’membe said.

The Socialist Party leader criticised Mr. Mundubile’s tenure as Northern Province Minister under the former Patriotic Front (PF) administration, alleging that he did not deliver meaningful development during his time in office.

He further argued that Mr. Mundubile was part of the PF government that was voted out in the 2021 general elections, questioning whether its former leaders had demonstrated sufficient change to deserve another opportunity.

“You have seen the performance of those people when they were in government. Why did you kick them out? Have they gone through the purification process over the last five years?” Dr. M’membe asked.

In addition, Dr. M’membe expressed concern over what he described as the growing trend of political defections, saying it reflected a decline in principled politics. He said Zambia needs leaders with integrity, consistency and a clear national vision rather than politicians who frequently change parties for personal or political advantage.

Attempts to obtain a response from Brian Mundubile were unsuccessful by press time, as his mobile phone was reportedly unreachable.

The remarks come as political campaigns intensify ahead of the general election, with candidates increasingly scrutinising each other’s records and leadership credentials.
