Police Arrest ZNBC Journalist Over Alleged Illegal Audio Recording
A ZNBC journalist has been arrested and charged for allegedly recording and publishing a private conversation without the knowledge or consent of those involved.
Police have identified the suspect as MacPherson Mukuka, 37, who is accused of recording a private meeting and later publishing the audio recording through the Facebook page “Earth Television Zambia.”
According to Police spokesperson Godfrey Chilabi, the alleged offence occurred between July 14 and July 17, 2026.
Mr. Chilabi said the published article contained an audio recording of a private meeting involving several individuals, which was allegedly captured without notifying the participants beforehand.
Police say the alleged offence falls under Section 10 of the Cyber Crimes Act No. 4 of 2025, which governs the unlawful interception or recording of private communications.
Following investigations, Mr. Mukuka was formally charged and arrested. He remains in police custody and is expected to appear before court.
The matter is now before the justice system, where the allegations against the journalist will be determined through court proceedings.
