Army, Police Deployed as Lusaka Central Results Verification Remains Suspended

LUSAKA — Verification and announcement of election results for Lusaka Central Constituency have been temporarily suspended following a fracas at the Civic Centre on Friday night.

The incident reportedly resulted in the temporary detention of some Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) officials as tensions escalated at the results verification centre.

Following the disruption, Zambia Army officers, Zambia Police officers and ECZ returning officers are currently manning the Civic Centre as they await further instructions from the electoral commission.

The suspension means the verification and announcement of results for Lusaka Central remain on hold until the ECZ provides further direction.

The latest development comes as the country continues the verification and announcement of results from the August 13, 2026 general elections.

The ECZ is expected to provide further updates on when the Lusaka Central verification process will resume.
