Valden Findlay Charged With Allegedly Financing Terrorism, Remains in Detention

Detained Lusaka businessman Valden Harry Findlay has been charged with allegedly financing or aiding the financing of terrorism, contrary to Section 20 of the Anti-Terrorism and Non-Proliferation Act Number 6 of 2018.

According to a report by ZNBC, Findlay’s lawyer, Milner Katolo, confirmed the development to journalists at the Lusaka High Court following proceedings held in chambers.

The development comes as Lusaka High Court Judge Lameck Mwale recused himself from handling the matter, meaning Findlay will remain in detention until the case is assigned to another judge.

Findlay had earlier applied for a writ of habeas corpus under Order 54, Rules 1, 2 and 4 of the Rules of the Supreme Court of England, White Book 1999 Edition, seeking judicial review of his continued detention.

The Lusaka businessman was apprehended by a joint security team on August 4, 2026, and has remained in custody in Lusaka since then.

The case is expected to proceed once it is allocated to another judge.
