No Lives Lost During Kalingalinga Operation, Zambia Police Clarify

Police Dismiss Reports of Fatalities in Mtendere and Kalingalinga Incident

The Zambia Police Service has dismissed reports circulating on social media alleging that several people were shot and killed during a recent incident in Kalingalinga and Mtendere compounds in Lusaka.

According to Police Public Relations Officer Godfrey Chilabi, the reports are false and do not reflect what transpired during the operation.

No Lives Lost

Mr. Chilabi stated that no fatalities were recorded during the incident, contrary to claims being widely shared online.

He explained that police officers were conducting a crowd control and management operation when tear smoke canisters were discharged to disperse a gathering.

During the operation, a pellet from one of the tear smoke canisters reportedly struck a young girl from Mtendere Compound on the leg while she was some distance away from the main operational area.

Victim Treated and Discharged

According to the police spokesperson, the girl was immediately taken to Mtendere Clinic where she received medical attention.

She was later discharged after treatment and is reported to be in stable condition.

Investigations Underway

Mr. Chilabi further disclosed that the Zambia Police Service has launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The investigations are expected to establish exactly how the injury occurred and whether any operational procedures need to be reviewed.

Appeal Against Misinformation

Police have urged members of the public to verify information before sharing it on social media, warning that false reports can create unnecessary panic and confusion within communities.

Authorities have reiterated their commitment to maintaining public safety while ensuring that all incidents involving law enforcement officers are thoroughly investigated.
