Hamasaka: Zambia Has Recorded Only Isolated Political Violence During 2026 Campaigns
State House Chief Communications Specialist Clayson Hamasaka says Zambia has recorded only isolated incidents of political violence during the ongoing 2026 general election campaigns, describing the situation as significantly calmer than what the country experienced under the previous Patriotic Front (PF) administration.
Speaking to Hot FM News, Hamasaka said the country has not witnessed widespread political violence during the current campaign period, emphasizing that President Hakainde Hichilema has consistently spoken out against violence regardless of who is involved.
According to Hamasaka, reports of teargas, violent clashes, and bloodshed were more common during the PF administration, affecting several parts of the country during election periods.
He acknowledged that isolated incidents have occurred during the current campaigns but maintained that they do not compare to the scale of violence experienced in previous years.
The remarks come as political parties intensify campaigns ahead of Zambia’s general elections, with concerns over electoral violence remaining a key issue for political stakeholders, civil society organizations, and election observers.
Political violence continues to be one of the major issues attracting public attention during election seasons, with many stakeholders calling for peaceful campaigns and respect for democratic processes.
